Epic Store Protest At Metro: Exodus – Players Bombard The Game With Positive Ratings

The slightly different kind of Review bombing: Because the players of Metro: Exodus are against the Epic Store, they flood the title with positive reviews.

With simple statements that want the Epic Store an early demise, and sometimes even complex ASCII images of two outstretched middle fingers and the text “Epic Store,” some players are currently posting their criticism of Epic’s store as a Steam review of Metro: Exodus. They like the game itself, but they, like so many others, are seriously disappointed that the title is now available only from Epic.

To be able to submit reviews to a game on Steam, you have to own this. The fans, the Metro: Rate now on Valve’s online platform Exodus are those who pre-ordered it before the transition to the Epic Store and thus belong to the few who actually have it on Steam.

That’s why players reject Epic’s store

The new distribution platform from Epic Games is a big topic among gamers. This is mainly due to the exclusive contracts that Epic enters into with other developers. In order to sell their game exclusively in the new online store for a whole year, Epic pays them money.

Tim Sweeney, the CEO of Epic Games, has already commented on the process on Twitter, claiming that it is a competition. According to him, Steam Metro lost: Exodus because they offered the developer a worse deal. Customers see the hypocrisy in their approach, as Sweeney expressed negative about Windows in the past. He criticized that Microsoft could impose its position as a middleman to the customer and from now on can only buy from Microsoft.

4A Games And NVIDIA Improve DLSS In Metro: Exodus

For the launch, we looked at RTX effects and Deep Learning SuperSampling in Metro: Exodus. More about this in our article “Metro: Exodus with RTX and DLSS in the technical check”. While the Ray Traced Global Illumination provides a much more realistic representation of the lighting situation, the DLSS could not convince yet. The quality of the presentation suffers noticeably.

NVIDIA has already said that they will work at DLSS and promise improvement. Now a patch has been released for Metro: Exodus, which should contain improvements for DLSS according to the patch notes:

  • General Stability fixes
  • Optimization for Lower spec PC’s
  • DLSS fixes and improvements to sharpness
  • Fixed Wallmark vfx for DX11
  • RTX fixes and optimization
  • Added bug trap support for reporting crashes to 4A Games
  • Benchmark tool fixes

So we took more screenshots to make a comparison:

In the first comparison, we focus on the representation of the electricity pylon and the bridge in the background. Here are many details lost by the DLSS or the rendering in a lower resolution. The loss of sharpness is not perceived as much as in the vegetation at the foot of the electricity pylon, where DLSS provides a noticeable blur.

In a second comparison, the focus is again on the trees or their branches and the ground details and also here is a loss of details.

Third and last comparison refers to the representation of details on objects or textures in close proximity. The sharpness is lost a bit and in the background on the mast, the loss of details can be seen.

So even after the test, we are talking about a certain loss of sharpness and details. Compared to the first impression in Metro: Exodus but it actually seems to give a slight improvement. The results are transferable for DLSS in 3,840 x 2,160 and 1,920 x 1,080 pixels, but especially for 1080p there seems to be major improvements.

But we have to put the topic of blur and the loss of detail into perspective again: In screenshots and detailed views, the differences are still clearly visible. In the game, however, it is difficult to determine whether DLSS is active or not. You have to focus on specific areas and details to determine this. Once the eye has recognized the problem areas of DLSS, however, they will always be easy to spot.

Once again we want to point to the performance increase by DLSS. The GeForce RTX cards increase by up to 45% by activating DLSS. However, this depends on which combination of hardware and resolution the DLSS is to be used. In the end, it should be a matter of personal presence. Prefer to reduce the resolution and details or activate DLSS?

Denuvo Cracked At Metro Exodus

The PC version of Metro Exodus is apparently available on the net after Deneuve was cracked within five days. The controversial release in the Epic Game Store should especially for this title, the problem of unlicensed downloads tightens.

Just five days after the release of Metro Exodus, strangers have undermined the copy protection systems of the PC version, among other things on DSO Gaming. The action game is apparently already available on relevant sites in the network as a download. The fast crack is also amazing because Metro Exodus, the new version of Denuvo with the version number 5.6 should have come to use.

In the case of Metro Exodus, it is conceivable that more players than usual feel morally legitimated to resort to black copy now. That’s because many disagree with publisher Deep Silver’s release policy: Metro Exodus should actually be on Steam. Shortly before the start, however, it was decided to distribute it (except pre-orders) exclusively for one year via the Epic Game Store.
This does not fit with many players, which is why they gave the title negative user ratings on all possible platforms – in the scene, that’s called Review Bombing. Forums have also written many gamers that they want to buy Metro Exodus only after the year on Steam. There might well be one or the other happy to wipe the publisher one, by downloading the shooter developed by 4A Games just without a license from the network.

In addition to Metro Exodus uses the way the same time published Far Cry New Dawn also Denuvo 5.6. There, the anti-tamper software protection seems to be still there. However, manufacturer Ubisoft traditionally also uses the virtualization solution VM Protect, which makes it much more difficult to overcome the protection systems.

The originating from an Austrian provider Denuvo is not a classic copy protection, which prevents about the duplication of the disc. Instead, the software – the manufacturer speaks of anti-tamper software – to prevent the online DRM measures from Steam, Origin or the Epic Game Store are bypassed. Many publishers using Denuvo are primarily concerned with the protection of their works in the particularly high-demand period after their first release. However, that means four to six weeks rather than just five days.
